What is ALMOND IRRIGATION?ALMOND IRRIGATION is a free public App, developed by the Andalusian Institute for Agricultural, Fisheries, Food and Organic Production Research and Training (IFAPA), which provides a convenient and intuitive interface to consult irrigation recommendations for almond plantations on Andalusia.Three irrigation strategies are defined.
The first, called optimal, is aimed at obtaining maximum production by optimizing water consumption, so that the crop does NOT suffer from water stress.
The second, called controlled deficit irrigation (RDC), is aimed at maximizing production based on the amount of irrigation available.
Since this endowment will be less than optimal, the crop WILL suffer stress and therefore the production will not be the maximum.
Finally, if the amount of irrigation available is very low, there is a strategy called survival, in which the survival of the plantation is prioritized over obtaining a harvest.
How do I access RIEGO ALMENDRO?Access is done by email and a password chosen by the user or by authentication through platforms such as Apple, Google or Facebook.
In this way, the user can recover the data of their parcels stored in RIEGO ALMENDRO if they have problems with their Smartphone (due to breakage, loss or theft), change terminals or want to access from another Smartphone.The user can request the deletion of their data and their registration in the App by contacting us https://www.juntadeandalucia.es/agriculturaypesca/ifapa/web/contactoWhat are the main features/utilities of RIEGO ALMENDRO?- RIEGO ALMENDRO carries out irrigation schedules adapted to the physical conditions (density, tree size and type of soil), phenological, meteorological (precipitation and evapotranspiration) and the availability of irrigation water, specific for each almond plantation in Andalusia.- The irrigation recommendations are based on methodologies fully contrasted by research work carried out in commercial and experimental almond plantations in the last 20 years in Andalusia.- The basis for scheduling irrigation is a water balance that begins on January 1, although the use of the tool can be started at any time during the campaign.- The meteorological information used by RIEGO ALMENDRO comes from the meteorological stations of the Andalusian Agroclimatic Information Network (RIA) closest to the plantation, which are automatically selected by the application.- The application carries out a specific irrigation calendar for the plantation introduced, and thus, for the RDC strategy, concentrates the available irrigation contribution at the critical moments of the crop (flowering and fruit set, and post-harvest), making daily monitoring of the stress level suffered by the crop.- If rainfall is very limited and the availability of irrigation water is reduced, the application alerts the plantation to risk of water stress, and develops a survival irrigation calendar in which the survival of the plantation is prioritized over obtaining harvest.- The application provides the irrigation calendars and the evolution of the water content in the soil for each plot in table and graph form, for easy visualization and interpretation by the user.- The tool incorporates the notification of the irrigation dose to be applied in the coming days, which is configurable by the user.- In addition to carrying out irrigation calendars optimized according to the availability of irrigation water, if the harvest obtained in the plantation and the volume of irrigation actually applied are entered, the application provides productivity indicators.
